오후에도 면도하는 남자
|
나는 가끔,
저녁 무렵에도 면도를 한다.
예를 들면 저녁 콘서트에 간다든가
좀 중요한 사람과 식사를 한다든가 하는 경우다.
저녁 무렵의 면도는 그 나름대로 분위기가 있어서
＂자, 지금부터 외출이다＂ 하는 마음가짐이
새로워진다. 적어도 아침 면도 같은 그저
의무적이고 습관적인 행위는 아니다.
거기에는 하나의 살아있는
실감같은 것이 있다.

A Shave in the Afternoon
Every now and then,
I end up shaving around dinnertime:
a night when I have plans to go see a concert, maybe,
or have a dinner scheduled with somebody important.
The act of shaving as evening draws near carries
with it an atmosphere of sorts, a little something
in a corner of the mind that says,
＂Alright then, time for an outing.＂
At the very least, it's totally unlike the habitual,
dutiful morning shave.
A shave in the afternoon gives you
the distinct sensation of being alive.

almost feels like he is living two different days in one;
with the simple act of shaving he gives himself a fresh start,
